While slightly worried, I was mostly giddy about Irene’s arrival. My plan was to go to bed early so I could be awake in the morning, but upon turning on the channel two news, Lonnie Quinn and his knowledge had me wanting to stay up all night. He has already earned a GotY 2011 nomination.
This is 2nd Street around 8:15P Saturday Night
Walked over to the 96th street exit of the FDR Drive. Nice big puddle there.
The city sewers are working overtime. Sure this could be any street corner in the city
Many places on 1st Ave have flooded basements. Not good for business
For the first time in history, the Subway system was shut down in NYC. As of Sunday morning, they were understandably still closed.
Lastly, a slideshow from Sunday Morning around 9:45AM
With a Tropical Storm approaching NYC, figured tonight would be a good night for a walk. Here are some of the results
While looking at the AMNY this morning, Rick noticed a picture showing that Irene was expected to plow through Brooklyn/Queens on Sunday morning. Immediately it dawned on him, that Coney Island was right in the path of destruction. Now most inconsiderate people might say “Meh.” However, one of the top items on the NYC Bucket List Rick crafted last week as suggested by KS was to ride the Cyclone. In his head, Rick had always put it off thinking that it would be a great place to take a girl on a date. Being that he can’t seem to make relationships last into the summer, his Coney Island trip has remained on the back burner. At 3:32 PM, Rick emailed the CoG to see if anyone wanted to take this collect call from adventure. Ostrowe accepted.
We made it to Coney Island at 8:45. By 8:51 we had bought our tickets. And by 8:53 we were on the coaster climbing up the first hill.
Rick proceeded to Tweet: Riding @TheCyclone since it may not be here in 48 hours
Later in the evening, the coaster tweeted back: Don’t worry, @TheR1CK, we can withstand anything!
Rick took this picture while climbing the first him. He then promptly buried his phone in his pocket after the Busch Garden debacle. Good to see he learned his lesson
Finally, no trip to Coney Island is complete without a trip to the Original Nathan’s Famous. The hot dog and bacon cheese fries were out of this world. No other Nathan’s will ever compare.
I hope both Coney Island staples are still standing come Monday
This morning my floor was a mess. Water damage warped a whole bunch of tiles. Then an earthquake hit New York and it was fixed. Everything is coming up Milhouse
Taken in Solstice Canyon, near Malibu, CA
Now Playing: Malibu – Hole
Before you say anything. Yes. I did get a lot of weird looks. And it took about 2 attempts per angle.
Oh, and yes. This was inspired by 98 Degrees
After the Dew Tour in Portland, Rick rented a car and proceeded to drive from there to Los Angeles since he had never been to any places along the way. He had also always wanted to drive the Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco to the City of Angels, so that is what he did. The trip can be summed up in 1800 pictures.
Mom – Sorry I didn’t make it to Pasadena
Being in Portland makes me wonder why people bother living in the Northeast. The weather here is wonderful but the competition in the Rose Garden is even better. Skate Street is making its 2011 Dew Tour debut here in the City of Roses, and with it comes a brand new concrete street course. Paul Rodriguez wasted no time leaving his mark finishing in the top spot in Semis. Here are the highlights:
And just for good measure…gif!
1 Paul Rodriguez 85.50
2 Ryan Decenzo 84.00
3 Manny Santiago 82.50
4 Mario Saenz 80.25
5 Danilo Do Rosario 78.50
6 Kelvin Hoefler 78.25
7 Alec Majerus 78.25
8 Scott Decenzo 77.50
9 Adam Dyet 76.75
10 Ryo Sejiri 75.00
11 Timmy Knuth 74.25
Originally, Ostrowe, Jmac, Joyce and Rick were planning a Gentlemanly Productions Saturday evening. However, Ostrowe was not feeling 100% due to the weather and Jmac was not feeling 100% due to the shower. Then around 4:48, things started to fall into place
While in Central Park playing frisbee with Jmac and Joyce, the following conversation takes place via text:
4:48 – Ostrowe: Is there a plan for tonight? I can’t handle another mess like last weekend
Rick: Operahouse? (Jurgen’s name for German Beer Halls. Coined in Vegas.)
Ostrowe: I won’t get there before 8. Jmac is claiming he won’t make it out tonight
Rick: Jmac is easily swayed
Ostrowe: I’m in for Operahouse
Rick: Jmac in Read More
